Children Around the World (4 weeks)
As the world gets smaller, our children need to have basic exposure to other countries and their traditions, including what they eat, how they dress, and what manners are appropriate. With understanding, our children will be more accepting of different cultures and peoples. Join us on our globetrotting journey through Africa, Japan, China, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and Russia, as we explore the lives of children in each country, their written languages, governments, art, music, and daily lives. We have some surprise visits planned for you as well!
 
Poetry Adventures (4 weeks)
Poetry is so much fun! During this month, we will be reading poems, reciting poems, and writing our own poems. Poetry comes in all shapes and forms, varying from strict rhythm and rhyme to free verse, void of rhyme, and clear beat. We will learn how to read with rhythm, play with words, and communicate through this highly versatile compositional form.
 
This will be an experience to remember, as we explore poetry through a child’s eyes: the beauty of swinging, the consequences of bad behavior, the trials of learning, and the joy of overcoming. As we recite, we will work on improving our articulation and expression, as well as expand our memory-- important skills that will pay off in spades throughout life. My children still remember the poetry they memorized at this age. Their only regret-- they wish they had learned more!
 
Wonders and Blunders of Greek Gods and Goddesses (4 weeks)
Join us as we enter through the gate of clouds to explore the home of the Greek and Roman gods: the great Mount Olympus! We will hear stories from Seshat, goddess of writing and keeper of books, about King Midas, the Apple of Discord, Narcissus, and many more! We will even learn about the original Nike and Pandora, the Greek women who are the namesakes of two modern-day, multi-billion dollar companies! The gods and goddesses of Olympus do not lead perfect lives—they must face war, jealousy, and love. Their children are born with special abilities as well. Hercules, Cupid, and Persephone are just a few of the children born with special characteristics. Come learn about who Demeter was and how she oversaw the harvest, while Hephaestus furnished his fellow gods with weapons of war.
 
What is unique about Greek and Roman mythology, and why are the names still used today? Is it really the monsters you need to look out for, or is it the strong and beautiful gods and goddesses who might curse you? This class is your chance to find out!
 
What-Ifs in Wonderland II (4 weeks)
Come join us as we continue our group adventure with Paddington, Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, Beauty and the Beast, and many more friends! Every class will help students solve problems, make arts and crafts projects (inspired by the books and movies), come up with new plot twists, and solve riddles.
 
Students will:
Learn to identify features of objects,
Learn to classify and evaluate them,
Understand their functions,
Understand the relativity of shape and size,
Highlight the positive and negative sides in natural phenomena, objects, and situations,
Learn about cause and effect,
Predict what might happen in a given situation when putting ideas into action,
Practice considering alternating outcomes,
Use resources from the immediate environment to solve problems and compose stories,
and Develop their imaginative skills and divergent thinking.
