The Art of Persuasion
Persuasive writing is among the most engaging and demanding forms of writing. It asks writers to understand various viewpoints, support points with credible evidence, and present compelling arguments in an organized, winning fashion. In a mix of debate and written argument, students plunge into persuasion, building pieces that are supported, powerful, and strikingly clear. Strengthening their critical and creative thinking skills, students actively acknowledge opposing claims and present evidence in a logical, orderly fashion.
Students are taught how to find credible sources, quote and paraphrase others effectively, and navigate opposing sides. Building on essay writing and research skills, students learn to use powerful language and evidence, effectively supporting their points. Through active language, strong points, and relevant examples, students engage the audience in understanding the art of argument.
Milestone: Ability to express ideas with strong, applicable support in an organized, engaging fashion.
