The Whipping Boy, by Sid Fleischman
Prince Brat and his whipping boy inadvertently trade places after becoming involved with dangerous outlaws. The two boys have nothing in common and even less reason to like each other. But when they find themselves taken hostage after running away, they have to trust each other.
Sarah, Plain and Tall, by Patricia MacLachlan
Sarah Elisabeth Wheaton comes from Maine to the prairie to answer Papa's advertisement for a wife and mother. Before Sarah arrives, Anna and her younger brother Caleb wait and wonder. Will Sarah be nice? Will she sing? Will she stay?
Mr. Popper's Penguins, by Richard and Florence Atwater
A classic of American humor, the adventures of a house painter and his brood of high-stepping penguins have delighted children for generations.
Owls in the Family, by Farley Mowat
Every child needs to have a pet. No one could argue with that. But what happens when your pet is an owl, and your owl is terrorizing the neighbourhood?
The Toothpaste Millionaire, by Jean Merrill
Likable, clever, and inventive sixth-graders Rufus Mayflower and Kate Mackinstrey develop and sell toothpaste to become millionaires in just one year!
Chocolate Fever, by Robert Kimmel Smith
Henry Green loves chocolate more than anyone else ever has—until he finds that strange things are happening to him. First, he makes medical history with the only case of Chocolate Fever ever. Then he finds himself caught up in a wild chase and hijacking!
Little Pear, by Eleanor Lattimore
Little Pear is just looking for fun, but he has a knack for finding trouble without even trying! Join him as he stows away to the fair in a wheelbarrow full of vegetables, nearly flies away on a kite, has a mishap with a firecracker, and is rescued from the river by a houseboat family.
The Velveteen Rabbit, by Margery Williams
At first a brand-new toy, now a threadbare and discarded nursery relic, the velveteen rabbit is saved from peril by a magic fairy who whisks him away to the idyllic world of Rabbitland. There, he becomes "Real," a cherished childhood companion who will be loved for eternity.
