From Colonies to Country (8 weeks)

Watch as the 13 original colonies—small and underprepared—take on the world power of Great Britain in a fight for freedom and independence. Meet the most important figures of the physical war, like George Washington and Patrick Henry, and peek into the great minds of Alexander Hamilton and James Madison who ignited a revolution with their writings and essays. Learn about the important battles fought on American soil in Boston and cross the Delaware with Washington on the day after Christmas. Listen to the stirring words of Thomas Paine as he calls on American citizens to defend their freedoms. In this class, we will discuss some of our most important founding documents: the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Federalist Papers.

Liberty and War (8 weeks)

Learn about the pivotal years following the American Revolution as America takes its place on the world stage as a new, strong country. Follow our first presidents as they set new tradition and precedent. Jump into our first political parties who can’t seem to agree on anything. America will also face new challenges in the War of 1812 as they try to answer important questions about isolationism. We will also see many new faces head west after Lewis and Clark to find new ground in adventurous territory.  This open frontier will shape America’s ideas of manifest destiny. There are so many exciting things happening in this time period-you won’t want to miss it! In this class we will focus on asking important questions about America’s future and promise that “all men are created equal.”
