Add and Subtract with African Forest Elephants

Unlike their smoother relatives, forest elephants have many cracks and crevices in which water becomes trapped after bathing. Because this is how they maintain 75% of their body temperature, it's vital that they know exactly how many wrinkles they have, even when some new ones appear or other ones disappear. Let's get adding and subtracting!
 
Through in-class activities and independent practice, students will:
Use the standard addition algorithm and a place value workspace to solve addition problems involving up to three digit addends
Use the standard subtraction algorithm and a place value workspace to solve subtraction problems involving up to two three-digit numbers
Choose efficient strategies for solving addition problems with 3-digit numbers
Choose efficient strategies for solving subtraction problems with 3-digit numbers
